Customer discovery
How to find customers: a practical B2B starting point
Start customer discovery by defining whose problem you solve, not by messaging everybody. A small, relevant list can be more useful than thousands of unrelated records.

Define your target with three criteria
Choose an industry, region and need. For appointment software, examine appointment-based businesses in one city rather than all businesses. Industry alone does not prove a need; review services and contact options on each website.
Learn from a small list
As an example, plan research around 20 businesses: note why each fits, the source URL and a next step. Recheck an existing record rather than adding another row for the same business. Do not invent email addresses or decision-maker details missing from sources.
Connect first contact to a follow-up plan
Prepare outreach around the business's actual needs. Continue replies in the right contact and conversation, and preserve opt-outs. Finding an address does not prove buying intent or marketing permission. Measure relevant conversations and next steps, not just the number of records.
A practical way to review a prospect list
| Target | Observed fact | Next research question |
|---|---|---|
| Example clinic A | A booking phone number is listed | Does it already offer online booking? |
| Example salon B | Services and opening hours are listed | How are appointments currently taken? |
| Example shop C | Only product sales are shown | Is appointment software relevant? Check fit first. |
Common mistakes
- Treating record counts as a sales guarantee
- Presenting missing source information as verified
How to approach this in Maptinger
After signing in, choose an industry and location in Customer Discovery. Review one business's sources and prepare a fit note before choosing an outreach account or recipient.
Search results are not a guarantee of freshness or sales; plan and credit limits apply.
