How to research a company website with traceable sources

Understanding what a company offers is a better starting point than a generic pitch. Judge research by retrieved sources, not assumptions.

Bound the research question

Choose a few areas such as services, target customers, location and contact routes. Distinguish a specific website review from broader industry research. Do not state revenue, staff size or buying intent as fact when the sources do not support it.

Check sources as well as findings

Inspect citation URLs: does the page support the finding, is the information current, and were some pages inaccessible? If only one of five source attempts succeeds, treat the result as partial. An AI summary is not an independent source by itself.

Choose the next step yourself

Research can inform a follow-up note or task, but a source report should not automatically create a customer or send. Reading history is different from starting new research. A retry may create a new provider call or credit effect, so check the existing result first.

A short pre-meeting research note

Synthetic example, not a real company result. State only source-supported information as a finding.
AreaObserved in the sourceQuestion for the meeting
OfferingA services page lists three packagesWhich package receives the most inquiries?
ContactThe contact page has a formWho follows up, and when?
NeedNo purchase plan is statedIs improving this area a current priority?

Common mistakes

  • Treating AI text as source evidence
  • Restarting research just to read a result

How to approach this in Maptinger

If Web Research is available, choose Website Review or Web Search. Define a question and target, then check plan and credit limits. Inspect the sources in the result and reuse the history entry before starting another run.

Research availability and external access are controlled; access to every website or automatic CRM updates is not promised.
